Benefits • Long Term Disability

If you become disabled and are unable to work, disability benefits are available through LTD coverage.

These benefits will begin after you have been totally disabled for six months:

  • The Plan provides a benefit of 66.66% of monthly pay (based on your total compensation) up to a limit of $20,000 per month.
  • The monthly benefit would continue until you are no longer disabled or until your Social Security normal retirement age.

LTD benefits are offset by any disability benefits you receive from other sources of income such as Social Security or workers' compensation. You are automatically enrolled for this coverage.

IRS regulations allow your employer to reimburse your LTD premium, in order to provide a non-taxable benefit in the event of a disability, only if you have paid Federal/State taxes prior to a period of disability. Your pay-stub reflects two line items:

  1. An income or "reimbursement" (by your employer) of LTD premiums.
  2. A like figure reflected as a "deduction" of LTD premiums.

To be eligible for LTD benefits you must be "treatment-free" for three months prior to the policy effective date. Specific information is given in the Group Long-Term Disability SPD. Under certain circumstances, disability benefits may be limited to a period of 24 months during your lifetime. Specific plan limitations are listed in your LTD SPD.

Contact Farm Credit Foundations for additional information on your LTD benefit.
